Ella Estigoy

For as long as I can remember, I've been drawn to doing something creative, and at some point, I discovered that technology was the perfect outlet for it. After moving to Canada with my family, I stumbled into the intersection of creativity and technology, and got hooked. I found my footing at NAIT, where I earned a diploma in Digital and Interactive Media Design.

I started my career as a graphic and web designer at local marketing agencies, and from there, the work kept evolving. Over the years I've brought design talent to projects across small businesses, enterprise, healthcare, and automotive, adapting to new industries and growing my craft along the way.

Now, with 6+ years of design experience, from graphic and web design to product design at companies like Discourse and Jobber, I've landed in a place that feels like where I was always headed. I design with technical constraints in mind, and I build with design principles baked in.

Forever curious, constantly learning, and eager to tackle new challenges.

Design journey and experience

Discourse
2022—2025

Designer

As a design generalist on a lean team, I worked across product experience, admin tools, and marketing. I designed product features and built interactive prototypes, working with engineering and customers to test ideas and refine the UI. Jumping in to code to troubleshoot front-end issues and implementing designs. I helped keep product and marketing aligned through clear communication and exploring different directions together. I also led the early visual work for the Discourse rebrand and brought it to life on key pages, including the new homepage.

Jobber
2016—2021

Product Designer

I designed features from rough sketches to polished UI, shipping regularly with the dev team. Along the way, I learned to run user research—talking to customers helped me understand what actually mattered to them. I created wireframes, prototypes, and mockups, and contributed to a design system that made our work more consistent and accessible. Working with product, engineering, and marketing taught me how to balance what customers needed with what made sense for the business.

Strathcom Media
2015—2016

UX/UI Designer

Transitioning into product-focused work, I modernized and unified the UI for internal Django-based tools, improving clarity and consistency. I created wireframes, prototypes, and front-end updates for new features, and built a small component library to speed up development. Working closely with engineers and product manager, I learned to ship updates smoothly in a more collaborative environment.

2011—2014

Web Designer

Strathcom was acquired by Go Auto in 2011. I designed and implemented websites for automotive clients while maintaining OEM brand guidelines. I honed my front-end skills through cross-browser testing and QA across dealership sites, ensuring layouts and interactions worked consistently across devices, and maintained multiple client sites with growing attention to detail and craft.

Statusfirm
2010

Web Designer

Building on my design foundation, I moved into front-end development, creating HTML/CSS/JavaScript layouts and integrating them into Statusfirm's custom CMS (based on ZenDesk). I focused on ensuring consistent quality across browsers while maintaining the platform's look and feel.

2007—2010

Graphic Designer

I laid the foundation for my design career by immersing myself in diverse disciplines—UI, print design, motion graphics, and studio production. I created visuals for Statusfirm's online channels and media partners, learning the fundamentals while supporting animation, video graphics, and QA.

Graphos
2007

Front-end Developer

Working alongside designers and developers at a local marketing agency, I implemented designs into production-ready front-end code. I learned to collaborate in a team environment, translating design files into responsive websites while maintaining consistency across projects. This role taught me how to communicate effectively between design and development disciplines—a skill that later shaped my approach to product design.

CreoLogic
2006

Web Designer

Building on my design foundation, I transitioned into professional web development at a boutique agency. I converted Photoshop designs into standards-compliant HTML/CSS, championing non-table layouts during the shift to modern web standards. Working directly with clients, I maintained and updated multiple sites while learning the balance between design vision and technical constraints. This experience solidified my ability to bridge design and development.
